Intensive Courses
At TX Driver Training, in Glasgow, we specialise in intensive driving courses(also known as "crash courses"- not a good name by anyone's standard!).This article is to give you an insight on how an intensive course works,so that you can decide if it's an appropriate way of learning for you.
An intensive course is an agreed block of continuous lessons, running from Monday to Friday with your practical driving test on a Friday afternoon or a Saturday morning, depending on availability at your chosen test centre. We provide a variety of driving courses with a varying amount of lessons, depending on your driving ability. We have set courses available, but we can tailor a course to suit your needs.
To best advise a pupil which course is suitable for him/her,we offer an assessment lesson. On your assessment lesson, our driving instructor will check out your driving ability and advise you on which course is most suitable for you. This eliminates the guesswork of deciding which course to take. The instructor will take into account what you have previously learned on your driving lessons and your ability to drive the car.
Once a course has been agreed,we will then check the Driving Standards Agency(DSA) website for the availability of a driving test.Every driving test centre has different waiting times for a test, depending on how many examiners are available and the popularity of the test centre. You can check waiting times on the DSA website but, generally, there is a four-week wait for a driving test. For whichever test centre your test is booked - usually the test centre closest to your home address - that is the areain which you will be doing all your lessons , e.g. if your test is at Glasgow Anniesland test centre, you will do all your lessons in and around the GlasgowAnniesland area.
Your instructor will use some of the test routes that are available to him/her but is there to teach you to drive on all different types of roads, not to cover test routes. For whichever Friday your test is booked, your course will begin on the Monday before, so that the agreed course runs from Monday to Friday with your test on the Friday afternoon (or Saturday morning). Our entire courses are available with a male or a female instructor and with a choice of a manual or automatic car. A fully qualified instructor, who is registered with the DSA, conducts your intensive course. The instructors that we use for our intensive courses are highly experienced and have been teaching pupils for a minimum of ten years. There is no car sharing on our courses, so you can be assured that you will have our instructor’s full attention at all times. We provide dual controlled cars, for your safety.
All driving tests are conducted by the DSA. This is the government body that controls the practical driving test. The DSA have advised that, as from 6th April, they will ask all test candidates if they would like a trained observer (e.g. an instructor) to sit in the back when the test is being conducted and for the debrief at the end of the test. It is entirely up to you, the candidate.
We, hope this article has covered any questions that you have but, if not, call us on 0141 764 1213 and we will be happy to answer any queries.
