New Driver’s Guide

If you have just passed your driving test fantastic and well done!!

However be warned you must remember you are on a probation period for the first two years. If you clock up six or more penalty points during that two year period you will LOSE your licence and return to being a learner driver on a provisional licence and you will need to retake your theory and practical driving test all over again.

Why?

The government wants to cut the number of accidents that happen on our roads today. Newly qualified driver’s especially young drivers 17-25yrs are more at risk in the first two years of passing their test than at any time. This is why the probation period applies to all newly qualified drivers.

Points

Penalty points will count in the first two years after passing your driving test even if the court does not award the points until after the two year probation ends. All points count towards this even if the points were awarded before you pass your driving test, as points are valid on your licence for three years.

Returning to L-Plates!

If you reach six or more penalty points in the two year probationary period the DVLA will automatically write to say that your licence has been revoked and is no longer valid. You will then have to apply and pay for a new provisional licence at a cost of £50.00. Once you have received your provisional licence then you will need to resit and pass the theory test and practical test.

Having your licence revoked affects your insurance policy. YOU MUST tell your insurance company immediately.

If you carry on driving without a valid licence this is an offence with a maximum penalty of £1000.00.

YOUR LICENCE IS PRECIOUS. WHY RISK IT?
