Thinking of changing career? Would you like to become an LGV Class 2 driver or upgrade to a Class 1 driver ?
At TX Driver Training Glasgow we can teach you to be a LGV Class 1 or 2 driver. You must be 21yrs or over and hold a full UK driving licence (for standard cars).
If you do not have Category C on the green counterpart of your licence then you must sit a medical. This can either be with your own doctor or we can arrange this through our doctor (there is charge for using our doctor see charges below). The doctors medical must be completed on A Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) medical report form D4. Once you have sat the medical, your licence needs to be returned to the DVLA along with the completed medical form D4 and a D2 form completed by the candidate. These forms are available at our Glasgow office to pick up or we can post them out to you.
When your licence has been returned from the DVLA with the Category C added onto the green counterpart of your licence ,then you are then able to sit a theory test and a hazard perception test. The theory test consists of 100 multiple choice questions. To pass you must receive a mark of 85 or higher. The hazard perception test consists of 19 video clips . To pass you must receive a mark of 67 or higher. Once both the theory test and hazard perception tests have been passed we can then book an LGV practical driving test for you.
At the beginning of the LGV practical driving test you will be asked five vehicle safety questions which will be a combination of "show me" and "tell me". Your instructor will go through all the safety questions prior to the practical test. The link to access these questions is below:
Download or print the LGV practical questions
Once you have answered all safety questions you will be examined on set exercises. These include:
- an "S" shaped reverse into a bay
- a braking exercise
- demonstrating the uncoupling abd recoupling procedure (only relevant for catagory C+E)
On completion of the set exercises you will be assessed on your general driving this lasts about 60 minutes.During the driving test the examiner will give you directions which you should follow. You can make up to 15 minor driving faults and still pass the test. However if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test. You can ask your instructor to accompany you on the test but they must not communicate with you in any way.
Drivers must pass Catagory C (Rigid) test before progressing onto Catagory C+E (Artic).
With effect from 10th September 2009 any person wishing to train for LGV Class 2 may need to do two seperate CPC tests. One theory and one practical test. You will be exempt from doing both of the CPC modules (theory case studies and CPC practical ) if you passed your car driving test before the 1st January 1997 and hold a C1 catagory on your licence.
For your convenience please complete the booking form below. Our staff will then contact you regarding payment of your deposit. If you prefer, you can print off a Word of pdf version of this form, complete and post to our driving school in Glasgow TX Driver Training.
